Kraig E.D. Hayes, 19, of Brookfield, faces a felony count of possession of a controlled substance after reportedly being in possession of 2.5 tablets of Xanax without a prescription on Jan. 12.
Police reported that at 11:40 p.m. police were responding to an unrelated complaint, when they saw Hayes exiting a vehicle matching the description given to them by a witness.
Hayes was taken to the Brookfield police station for questioning and police reported finding the pills clenched in his right fist during a search.
These items were obtained from police reports filed by the Riverside, North Riverside and Brookfield police departments from Jan. 10 through Jan. 17 and represent a portion of the incidents to which police responded. Unless otherwise indicated, anybody named in these reports has only been charged with a crime. The cases have not been adjudicated.
More vehicles burglarized1-14-2009
Brookfield police reported that two vehicles, both apparently unlocked, had been burglarized since Jan. 2 on the south end of the village.
Some time between Jan. 2 and Jan. 5 an unknown person entered a 2001 Chrysler Concorde parked in a lot in the 4500 block of Forest Avenue and removed some Dell computer equipment, four pairs of sunglasses and $5 in currency. Police said there were no signs of forced entry.
Then between 2 p.m. on Jan. 8 and noon on Jan. 9, someone entered an unlocked 2009 Chevy Astro Van parked in a rear lot in the 4500 block of Grove Avenue and removed a JVC AM/FM/CD stereo from the dashboard, which was damaged in the process.
North Riverside police reported on Jan. 7 that someone had broken into a 2007 Nissan Altima parked in the south lot at Best Buy, 2358 Harlem Ave., and attempted to steal a stereo from the dashboard.
The owner of the car reported that he left the store and heard his car alarm going off. He found that the dashboard had been pulled away and the car's radio was in three pieces on the passenger side of the vehicle.
Burglary - 10-08-2008
A resident of the 3100 block of Oak Avenue, Brookfield, reported that some time between 7 p.m. on Sept. 29 and 8:30 a.m. on Sept. 30, someone broke the lock on the passenger-side door of a 2002 GMC Savanna and removed a TV, DVD player and speakers from inside the vehicle.
The total value of the loss was $1,600.
The owner of a 1987 Chevy Camaro reported to Brookfield police on Sept. 30 that someone had broken out the driver's side window of the vehicle, which was parked in a lot in the 9100 block of Broadway Avenue, and removed a DVD/CD player valued at $600.
Brookfield man faces sexual abuse charge - 10-1-2008
Brookfield resident Richard A. Andes, 30, was charged on Sept. 17 with aggravated criminal sexual abuse, the second such arrest since 2000.
Andes' arrest comes more than a year after the alleged incident occurred in August 2007. A friend of the victim went to police in April 2008 and reported that Andes, of 4535 Blanchan Ave., and a 15-year-old Lyons female acquaintance had sex.
Andes' arrest followed an analysis of evidence by the Illinois State Police crime lab. Brookfield Police Lt. Jeff Leh declined to elaborate on what evidence was being analyzed since the criminal lawsuit against Andes is still pending.
At a hearing on Sept. 18, a Cook County judge set Andes' bond at $750,000. He was scheduled for a hearing on Sept. 24, but that hearing has been continued until Oct. 10. Police believe the Cook County State's Attorney will be seeking a formal indictment against Andes, who is already a registered sex offender in Illinois.
In 2000, he was convicted of aggravated sexual abuse, which is a class 2 felony, and sentenced to three years in prison for a Brookfield case involving a 15 year old victim.
Burglary - 10-1-2008
A homeowner in the 3200 block of Oak Avenue, Brookfield, reported that some time between 6 p.m. on Sept. 26 and 6:15 a.m. on Sept. 27, someone broke into his garage and stole several items.
Among the equipment stolen was a Craftsman power washer valued at $300, a Honda generator
Burglary 7-9-08
A resident of the 4200 block of Blanchan Avenue, Brookfield, reported to police that between 11 p.m. on July 1 and 6:15 a.m. on July 2, someone entered his locked 1997 Oldsmobile Bravada and removed a 300-watt Baja amplifier and a 10-inch subwoofer from the rear cargo area.
The owner of the vehicle told police that the offender may have gained entry through a back window, which was left partially open. The items were valued at $150.
Brookfield reported that during the overnight hours of July 1-2, someone broke into a 2003 Saturn L200 parked in the 9500 block of Congress Park Avenue and removed a portable global positioning system from a nylon lunch bag on the rear floor of the vehicle. The GPS unit was valued at $200. The vehicle was left unlocked, according to the report.
Sometime between 4:30 p.m. on July 3 and 2 p.m. on July 6, someone entered a 2003 Chevy van parked behind the garage of a home in the 4000 block of Raymond Avenue, Brookfield, and removed an air compressor, two pneumatic nail guns, a reciprocating saw and a cordless drill (total value $800).
Burglary 7-2-08
Someone stole $1,000 in stereo equipment from a vehicle parked in the 3700 block of Grand Boulevard, Brookfield, between 4 a.m. and 10 a.m. on June 26. According to the report, the owner of a 1994 Honda said he left his doors unlocked. When he returned to his vehicle, both passenger-side doors were wide open and missing were two amplifiers, a 15-inch speaker and a subwoofer.
Between 7 p.m. on June 28 and 8 a.m. on June 29, someone smashed out the passenger-side window of a 2005 Dodge parked in front of a home in the 4000 block of Forest Avenue, Brookfield, and removed a Kenwood stereo from the interior
Theft 6-25-08
A resident of the 8900 block of Monroe Avenue, Brookfield, reported that between 7 p.m. on June 16 and 6 a.m. on June 17, someone removed a red Power Pro 5500 generator valued at $5,000 from the backyard.
Robbery 6-25-08
Berwyn resident Juan M. Hernandez, 19, faces a robbery charge after he allegedly held up the Mobil gas station at 9137 Ogden Ave. in Brookfield just after midnight on June 9.
According to police, Hernandez approached the clerk to purchase a bag of chips, but did not have enough money, sparking an argument with the clerk. Hernandez then allegedly reached over the counter into the cash drawer, initiating a struggle between the two. Hernandez fled the store with roughly $40, police said, but the event was captured on a surveillance camera.
During the subsequent investigation, an officer learned of a large outdoor party at a home in the 4000 block of Oak Avenue, which led to the naming of Hernandez as a suspect. He surrendered to police on June 12. He is free on bond.
Burglary 6-25-08
Brookfield police charged Chicago residents Patrick B. Moton, 43, and Tyresa S. Moton, 33, with two counts each of burglary on June 17 after police received a call shortly after 3 a.m. that a subject took a blue tool bag from a vehicle in the 4500 block of Elm Avenue and then fled in a dark-colored car with no hubcaps.
An officer stopped a car matching the description moments later in the 4100 block of Deyo Avenue. The officer reported seeing the blue tool bag on the back seat of the car and arrested the Motons. During a search of the car, police found numerous power and hand tools.
Later on June 17, a resident of the 4200 block of Deyo Avenue reported that tools had been stolen from his Ford van in the previous two days. The victim was able to identify his tools from among those recovered in the Motons' car.
At the time of their arrests, both Patrick and Tyresa Moton were on parole from the Illinois Department of Corrections, Patrick for a 2004 conviction for manufacture/delivery of cocaine and Tyresa for a 2006 burglary conviction.
Riverside police charged Berwyn resident Raul Mendez, 19, with burglary after he was identified as one of three men allegedly rifling through a 2004 Nissan Sentra parked in the driveway of a home in the 200 block of Lawton Avenue just after 4:30 a.m. on June 23.
According to the police report, the victim heard a noise outside and found the three men inside the vehicle. The victim yelled at the men, causing them to flee the scene, but the victim gave police descriptions of the men.
A Riverside officer reportedly found Mendez in the 3500 block of Maple Avenue, Berwyn, and gave chase. After apprehending Mendez, police were able to positively identify him as one of the three in the victim's vehicle. The two other suspects remained at large as of Monday afternoon.
Theft 6-25-08
A resident of the 8900 block of Monroe Avenue, Brookfield, reported that between 7 p.m. on June 16 and 6 a.m. on June 17, someone removed a red Power Pro 5500 generator valued at $5,000 from the backyard.
Brookfield Resident gets a D U I with children in car! 4-30-08
Roberta L. Whigam, 43, was charged with driving under the influence after an officer responded to a 911 call of a white minivan swerving into oncoming traffic while eastbound on 31st Street from Maple Avenue at 2 p.m. on April 21.
Police reported seeing the van parked 18 inches from the curb and impeding traffic in front of a house in the 3100 block of Vernon Avenue. Whigam, of Brookfield, was reportedly behind the wheel and the keys were in the ignition. Two small children were in the back seat, according to the report.
In addition to DUI, she was charged with two counts of endangering the life of child and cited for improper parking on a roadway and improper child restraint.
Felony drug charges leveled at Plainfield pair 4-30-08
Two Plainfield residents face felony drug charges after Brookfield police arrested them while respo According to the police report, someone called police about subjects who looked to be drinking and smoking marijuana inside a GMC Jimmy parked in the 4000 block of Deyo Avenue.
The driver, identified as Daniel J. Gandolfo, 19, reportedly told police he was waiting for a friend. When the officer asked if the driver and his passengers had been drinking, both Gandolfo and front-seat passenger Jacob A. Perschnick, 18, reportedly produced cans of beer.
Police also found an open backpack inside the car that reportedly contained more beer and a cardboard box containing a large quantity of cannabis, a digital scale, a grinder and $130 in cash.
Both Gandolfo and Perschnick were charged with felony counts of possession of cannabis (over 30 grams) and possession of cannabis with intent to deliver.nding to a suspicious vehicle call on April 25 at 6:30 p.m.
A neighbor’s car door was also reported ajar, though no information about the case was available 4-30-08
Brookfield police reported that sometime between 11:30 a.m. and 1:13 p.m. on April 27, someone shattered the driver's side window of a car parked in the parking lot of the First Congregational Church, 9146 Lincoln Ave., and removed a GPS system valued at $250.
Another Theft in Brookfield 4-16-08
Someone apparently looking to either accessorize his own backyard or open up a second-hand outdoor furniture store struck in Brookfield on four separate occasions last week, taking items from private property.
During the overnight hours of April 10-11, someone took a 4-foot wooden bench from the rear of a home in the 3200 block of Arthur Avenue; a black metal, two-seat swing valued at $100 from the front porch of a home in the 9300 block of Monroe Avenue; and an iron chair and round iron table (valued at $200) from the backyard of a home in the 9300 block of Jackson Avenue.
Then during the overnight hours of April 12-13, someone took a sea-green glass bird bath bowl valued at $100 from the front yard of a home in the 9400 block of Jackson Avenue.
Vehicle theft 4-9-08
A white 1998 Chevy Suburban was stolen from a driveway in the 4300 block of Maple Avenue, Brookfield, sometime between 6:30 p.m. on March 24 and 5 a.m. on March 25, 2008 according to police.
Brookfield police received a call from Summit police just after 5 a.m. on March 25 saying they had located the vehicle, which had its steering column stripped, in their town. They had also a subject in custody.
Brookfield police contacted the owner of the vehicle, who stated he last saw the car parked in his driveway the previous evening and had not given permission for anyone to use the car.
DUI IN BROOKFIELD 4-9-08
A Glendale Heights man charged last week with his third DUI offense faces three felony charges after Brookfield police found him passed out and slumped over the wheel of his car in the 3200 block of Sunnyside Avenue.
Police were called to the block at 4:42 a.m. on March 28 to investigate loud music and a horn blaring from a car parked on the street. Police arrived to find Juan F. Calahorrano-Flores, 45, slumped over the wheel of his 2008 Toyota, which was running, and a 16-ounce can of beer in the cup holder of the center console.
The officer took the keys out of the ignition and then woke up the driver, who appeared intoxicated.
A subsequent breath test reportedly showed Calahorrano-Flores' blood-alcohol to be .170, which is over twice the legal limit of .08.
The Cook County State's Attorney approved three felonies. Two were felony DUI charges, one for the driver's third offense and one for driving on a revoked license. He was also charged with a felony count of driving while revoked.
Francisco Velazquez Orozco, 29, of Chicago was charged with two counts of felony DUI after police stopped him in the 9000 block of 31st Street, Brookfield, at 8 p.m. on March 29.
A Brookfield police officer stated he observed the driver of the vehicle exit a gas station at Maple Avenue and 31st Street, get into his car and head east on 31st Street, crossing all four lanes of traffic before striking the south curb.
In addition to two felony DUI charges, he was cited for several traffic offenses, including illegal transportation of open alcohol.

Burglary 3-26-08
A resident of the 3600 block of Grand Boulevard in Brookfield reported to police on March 15 that his 1998 Ford van had been burglarized. Reported missing from the van were tools, including a Bosch hammer drill, a Porter cable nailer, a Craftsman wrench set and a Fein reciprocating saw. The tools were valued at $1,000.
Alleged drug dealer arrested 3-12-08
Brookfield police on March 14 arrested an alleged drug dealer and charged him with possession of cannabis with intent to deliver, a Class 3 felony, after a month-long investigation by Brookfield police.
According to police, at about 7:30 p.m., Brookfield officers in conjunction with the suburban Major Case Assistance Team (MCAT) executed a search warrant at 3836 Madison Ave., recovering 67 grams of cannabis, packaging materials, a scale and $877.
They arrested Nicholas A. Fajdich, 20, and charged him with two felonies. 3-12-08
At 10:45 p.m., Brookfield police arrested Western Springs resident Joeset Ocasio-Martinez, 21, and charged him with a Class 4 felony count of possession of cannabis after reportedly recovering 73 grams of cannabis from his vehicle, which was stopped for traffic violations in the 4000 block of Custer Avenue.
Burglary 3-12-08
A resident of the 4200 block of Maple Avenue, Brookfield, reported that between 11:30 p.m. on March 13 and 6:30 a.m. on March 14, someone forced open the lock on the sliding door of a Ford E250 cargo van parked next to the garage and removed over $700 in power and hand tools from inside.
The victim stated that the items could have been taken at any time in the past month or longer.
