Apply to Vote Absentee

Absentee ballot applications for the April 7, 2009Consolidated Election in Brookfield:

To vote absentee, you must:

  • Be a registered voter
  • Be eligible to vote absentee
  • Submit a completed absentee ballot application (see options below)

Once your application is received, the Clerk's office will verify your eligibility and compare your signature on the application against the signature on your voter registration record before issuing a ballot.

2/26/2009 First day absentee ballot applications are accepted.
3/10/2009 Last day to register to vote.
3/11/2009 First day of grace period registration and voting.
3/16/2009 First day of Early Voting.
3/24/2009 Last day of grace period registration and voting.
3/30/2009 Last day military and overseas voters may make application for ballot and send out ballot.
4/2/2009 Last day of Early Voting.
4/3/2009 - 4/6/2009 In-person absentee voting at the Clerk’s downtown Chicago office only.
4/2/2009 Last day voted mail absentee ballots can be postmarked for acceptance by the Clerk’s office.

Early Voting
Illinois voters can cast their ballots before Election Day at designated locations without having to provide a reason or excuse. Casting your ballot before Election Day makes voting more convenient, especially for the elderly and voters with busy schedules.

No more excuses
Voters do not need to provide an excuse or reason why they cannot make it to the polls on Election Day. You need only to fill out an application at the early voting site.

Early Voting Dates
Prior to the Tuesday, April 7, 2009 Consolidated General Election, Early Voting will take place Monday, March 17, 2009, through Thursday, April 2, 2009.

Bring Photo ID
State law requires early voters to display valid identification to an election official before receiving a ballot to vote early. Valid forms of ID include: a current driver’s license, state-issued ID card or another government-issued ID with a photograph.

Voting Equipment
Early Voting will be conducted on touch screens that store every ballot style in the county, permitting any voter in suburban Cook to vote at any location.

Ballot secrecy
Your ballot will remain secret and securely stored.

In-person voting only
Voters who participate in Early Voting must vote in person. Voters who cannot make it to their polling place on Election Day and can provide a valid reason or excuse under the law may vote absentee by mail or in person. Laws governing absentee voting have not changed as a result of Early Voting.
